RHYTHMA
A circadian lighting framework for architects, interior designers and their clients
For architects and interior designers
Your clients are increasingly asking about wellness. Sleep. Energy. How their home makes them feel. You are designing spaces that need to perform at a biological level as well as a visual one.
Rhythma gives you the framework to do that, without adding complexity, without restricting your creative freedom, and without requiring you to become a lighting scientist or an electrical engineer.
What Rhythma provides
A structured, room by room circadian lighting framework built around how your client lives, how each space is used, and what the lighting needs to do biologically at every hour of the day.
Within that framework you retain complete creative control. Rhythma defines what the lighting must do. You decide how it looks.
What this means in practice
For each space in the project I define the biological requirements, what the lighting needs to achieve in the morning, through the day, in the evening, and at night. From that I provide a curated selection of lighting products for each zone that meet those requirements.
Where you or your client have preferred products of your own, decorative fixtures, a particular luminaire you know works well in a space, I assess their suitability and advise on how they can be incorporated. Where a product is not ideally suited biologically, there are often ways to manage this through the control system, dimming it appropriately, restricting it to certain times of day, or combining it with other sources, so that your design intent is preserved without compromising the biological outcome.
This is where my engineering background becomes directly valuable to your project.
Two lights. Same appearance. Same colour temperature. Completely different biology.
Engineering accountability across the whole system
One of the most persistent problems in lighting design is compatibility. Whether a luminaire is trailing edge or leading edge dimmable. Whether a driver is compatible with the dimming protocol being used, DALI, 0 to 10 volt, analogue, or phase cut. Whether the control system can actually deliver what the design requires. These questions surface constantly, and when they surface during construction they are expensive and disruptive to resolve.
As part of every Rhythma engagement I take engineering responsibility for the entire lighting chain, from luminaire through driver through dimming system through control specification through user interface. Every component is checked for compatibility. The control system behaviour is defined by me, room by room, scene by scene, so that the automation integrator has a clear and unambiguous specification to work from.
In practice this level of engineering oversight often results in meaningful cost savings for the project as a whole. Problems that would otherwise be discovered and resolved on site, at considerable expense, are identified and resolved at the specification stage. The Rhythma service frequently pays for itself before a single luminaire is installed.
What Rhythma removes
The fear of specifying a luminaire that turns out to be incompatible with the control system. The risk of a beautiful scheme that does not translate correctly into how the system actually behaves. The responsibility of knowing whether a product genuinely supports your client's biology or simply claims to. The late stage changes and budget surprises that arise when technical incompatibilities surface during installation.
Rhythma carries that responsibility. You carry the design.
What your clients get
A home whose lighting supports their sleep, their energy, their hormonal balance, and their long term health, automatically, every hour of every day, without them having to think about it. And a design team they can trust to have thought of everything, including the dimension of their home that almost no practice has ever addressed.
Light governs virtually every major system in the body. Getting it wrong has consequences that go far beyond a bad nights sleep.
How it works alongside your project
Rhythma works with your existing team. You retain creative leadership. Your automation integrator retains implementation responsibility. I sit between your design intent and the technical reality of the system, ensuring the two remain aligned from specification through to handover.
Involvement can be as light or as deep as the project requires. From a framework and product shortlist only, through to full specification support, control logic definition, and ongoing liaison through design and delivery.
For clients
If you have arrived here through your design team, this section is for you.
Your architect or interior designer is working with Rhythma to ensure that the lighting in your home does something that most lighting, however carefully designed and expensively installed, has never done before.
Most homes are lit for appearance. The light looks beautiful. But biologically, it may be working against you, suppressing melatonin in the evening, disrupting your sleep architecture, and quietly undermining the systems that govern your energy, your mood, your hormonal balance, and your long term health.
Rhythma changes that. Working alongside your design team, I ensure that the lighting in your home delivers the right biological signals at every hour of the day. Morning light that genuinely supports alertness and sets your body clock. Evening light that preserves melatonin and prepares you for restorative sleep. Night lighting that allows safe movement without disrupting your sleep at all.
Your home looks exactly as your design team intended. The light feels warm, considered, and beautiful. The difference is felt rather than seen, in the quality of your sleep, the clarity of your mornings, and the resilience of your energy across the day.
The next step
Whether you are an architect, an interior designer, or a client whose project team is working with Rhythma, the simplest starting point is a conversation.
